  • The cell you are now working in is called an active cell, and it allows you to type any value or formula. The rectangle box in the green border indicates which cell is active.
  • In the left corner, there is a box addressing the cell reference (C5) of which cell is currently active.

Where Do You Find the Content of the Active Cell?

  • The contents of the active cell are displayed in the Formula bar. Occasionally, the active cell's content may not fit within the cell width; however, by looking at the Formula bar, you can see the entire contents of the active cell.

How to Make a Cell Active in Excel?

  • Go to the cell address box to activate a cell.
  • Type the target cell address (B3) for navigation. The active cell box will immediately shift to the desired cell address.

How to Put an Active Cell into Edit Mode?

To make any adjustments to the current cell, you may activate edit mode for an active cell. The editing mode will have a blinking cursor. There are three ways to get to the edit mode.

  • Double-click the active cell.

How to Find the Active Cell from Multiple Selection?

  • When you select a cell range, two colors appear in the rectangular region. The grey color cells are non-active cells while the only cell with the white color is the active one.
